I began exploring how the Permaculture Principles could apply to this design by brainstorming each principle. At this stage things were still quite open, so I was drawing out ideas around possible design solutions as well as any other ideas that were prompted by the principles.

I used Holmgrens Principles, plus a couple of Mollissons 'Attitudinal Principles' which seemed very appropriate, 'the smallest change for the biggest effect' for example.

I included the Permaculture Ethics too.

I did this all on one big page and then began to identify connections between all the ideas. Some small seeds of ideas linked together, some referred to the design process while others were potential design solutions. Still, at this stage, I was not making any decisions, only exploring!

The poster began to resemble another web.....

A small sample of the threads of this web that emerged:

Obtain a Yield- physical things around me- health/garden/farm -my energy & time as a limiting factor- find opportunities to co operate & collaborate - Integrate Rather Than Segregate- My needs could be the designs themselves - Use rolling implementation - timeline with small bitesize chunks - frame with a spiral of abundance pattern to maintain & build momentum - design from Pattern to Detail - Acount for other patterns around me - family heirarchy - use Edges & Value the Marginal - Extend my skills edges - Use my learning so far - reach out from comfort zones - connect with others -etc etc!!

And the Ethics?

Earth Care was straightforward enough, It could be reflected in my designs, Food Garden, Healthfull lifestyle, Designs to improve the efficiancy of the farm.

People Care similarly, I could care for myself (the central client) by aking days off, giving myself realistic timeframes, arranging to work in quiet spaces & times. For others, I could share what I am doing with those around me & include them in the projects & activities if they are interested, I could also allow time for myself to offer them support swhen they need it. For those further away I could improve my website so that it's more helpfull.

Fairshares? How can I redistribute wealth & surplus with this design?

A.L.P.

Permaculture Principles

If I look through the lens of each principle what do I see?
