My Work

My 10 Diploma Projects reflect some of what I've been up to over the last three years.

They are projects which I have actively 'designed' using a permaculture approach.

In addition to these I have been involved in other projects, activities & events some of which are listed in the 'relevant activities' page.

The projects I've chosen to include in the portfolio span various contexts, land, home, community, administration, education & people care. It is selection of work with a very local flavour, the consequences of an experimental adventure of where & how I can use permaculture within the shapes of the circumstances & responsiblities I have found myself in of recent years.

I think this reveals the opportunity for, relevance (& the challenges!) of Permaculture design & thinking in really normal everyday living, in my local landscape & culture.

The Permaculture Diploma

According to the official guide to the diploma produced by the Permaculture Association Britain, the Diploma in Permaculture Design is "internationally recognised as the next step for people who have done a Permaculture Design Course. The diploma formally recognises and accredits a person's permaculture practice. This is particularly important for those who are teaching permaculture, offering permaculture services, developing and running permaculture projects"

The diploma is self directed learning adventure! It is based on action learning approach where much of the learning comes through reflection on each project.

Diploma Criteria

The criteria for being awarded a the diploma is very thorough, It is based around developing the design skills of the apprentice through a series of intentional design projects using permaculture ethics & principles. Equally it is essential to demonstrate how the apprentice integrates permaculture into their own life.

The scope for the contexts & content of designs is entirely open to the needs & opportunities of the particular apprentice, I have seen apprentice designs which address land based challenges, aswell as personal challenges, community projects, education, events and travel. No doubt there are many more opportunities to use permaculture design to help us embrace the ethics of earth care, people care & fairshare.

For full details of the diploma & criteria you can visit the website of the Permaculture Association Britain

So how does my work meet the diploma criteria?

I will upload a summary sheet which shows how & where I meet this diploma criteria in this portfolio.

My Permaculture Diploma

Hello, Welcome....

This website documents some of my work & adventures over the past three years while I've been winding my way along my permaculture diploma pathway. It's designed to be accessible to my tutor Chris & other assessors, my fellow diplomees, potential allies, clients, collaborators & general inquisitores alike.

It is an emerging, evolving collection of projects :-) Any work documented here is a representation of my personal learning progression and so there are some good ideas, (& actions!) some replicable examples of permaculture in action & hopefully some inspiration along with practical & technical information. Equally, there are mistakes, assumptions, learning curves, & the odd dead end.

Given that, I endeavour to reflect honestly on what worked & didn't work, to share constraints & opportunities that I experience, to create workable, practical solutions, & to identify steps I can take to improve the quality & effectiveness of my work as a Permaculture designer.

If there's one thing I've learnt so far, it's better together! So if it seems like I could help you or you could help me, maybe we could work or play together, I'd love to hear from you.

Not learning from experience'
